Is Google Instant Worth In Terms of SEO and PPC?

Hello Everyone,

I have been receiving many queries related to the new version of big G, Google Instant. Query : Is Google Instant an advantage or disadvantage in terms of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and PPC Campaigns (Google Adwords)?

Search Engine Optimization
Actually, the concept behind Google Instant Search is that it serves you results while you are typing your search phrase i.e., even you typed a single word (Short keyword) Google will display results for that keyword and if the result is appropriate (what they need), users may click that site without fully typing their required phrase (long tail keywords) which we actually need to consider now.

So here we are loosing our traffic that we used to get from long-tail keyword phrases earlier. And we now need to concentrate on targeting for even short terms along with the broader terms which can't be achieved immediately. Thus, Google Instant is definitely a disadvantage in terms of SEO. And it doesn't affect the people who don't rely on Search engine traffic from Google.

And for Adwords users, it's unclear how this change will affect the quality score, as the impressions might significantly increase (20x) before they are actually noticed by the users, which will certainly affect the CTR (click-through rate) and consequently the quality score.

So all the webmasters and SEO Guys should also optimize for the short keywords along with the long ones to grab the visitors that use Google Instant Search. And I didn't hear anything from Google about the Ad-impressions and the quality score.

Do share your views which will help others on this regard.

  2. Hi Radha, Let's see How will this Impact PPC?

Something that is clear from spending time with the system is that it will probably focus searcher attention more onto organic results. The PPC results also change in real time, but the only thing that stays common across searches is the organic results, meaning that they are likely to be what the success of a query is judged by by most users, and it stands to reason that most searchers will stop refining their query when they see an organic result they wish to click on.

I would expect PPC impressions to increase, but clicks to decrease. If this is what happens, expect Google to respond with some tweaks to the system.

  3. Guys,

The Google Instant concept was actually introduced back in 2006 by Yahoo owned "Alltheweb", check out this link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EaSocSYSB8&feature=player_embedded#! . I don't think they have it any more as it was a failed concept or else we guys could have heard about it.

In regards to Google Instant impact on PPC, i think the impressions will increase which in turn will effect the CTR's.

  4. Hi Shyam, That was right! Google Instant is actually a copy of "AlltheWeb" Search which got failed in the year 2006 and later Google overcame the errors caused and the result was out now as "Google Instant". You can also find "Youtube Instant" which was actually developed by a School Guy Recently and he was offered a job at Google for his intelligence. Isn't that wow!
