All the Leading mobile network providers like Airtel, Idea, Vodafone, Tata Indicom/Docomo etc.. send lots of promotional SMS/Calls to keep you updated on the latest offers/plans provided by them. But it is annoying if you receive those SMS/Calls in huge number.
To stop promotional calls/sms from the network providers, you can send an SMS stating that you're not interested to receive such calls or sms. To do so, you can activate DND (Do Not Disturb) service which many of you may not know because the publicity of this service is not properly done.
Airtel
To Activate DND Service on Airtel and Stop Unwanted calls from Airtel, Just send text message "START DND" and send it to 121. Works both for prepaid as well as post-paid customers of Airtel and landlines too.
Vodafone
Send text message "ACT DND" to 111 in order to block unwanted promotional calls/sms from Vodafone
Idea/Tata Indicom/Tata Docomo/Reliance(GSM&CDMA),BSNL
For the rest of these mobile network providers, just send a sms message "START DND" and send it to 1909.
If you want to stop promotional calls from your Bank/Insurance companies, refer to donotdisturb.in
Note that It normally takes around 45 days for the activation of DND Services. If you still receive such calls after that period, the telemarketer will be punishable.

but what if you're paid for receiving the SMS, that's true my friends. We have got lot of opportunities to earn money from mobile. Search for the proper provider who will pay you for receiving sms on your phone. I found one for my self.
