Microsoft Office is the most powerful office suite and many use it because it's not complicated. Linux users will have an opensource office application named "OpenOffice" which comes by default. But to be frang, it's not much convenient than Microsoft Office (as I personally used the both versions).
So if you want to use MS Office on your Linux Operating System, PlayOnLinux will come handy. It's a popular Linux application which allows you to install as well as run the Microsoft Windows application on Linux OS.
How to Install MS Office 2007 in Linux?
- Download & Install PlayonLinux Software on your system.
- First insert the Microsoft Office 2007 CD, and browse the CD folder to figure out the mount pointer of the CD. Simply click "Ctrl+L" to locate the mount pointer location and copy it. Also Keep the Product Serial Key handy.
- Run PlayonLinux Software ( (Applications -> Games ->Play on Linux).
- Click on "Install" button in the application window and choose "Office" from the category list and click on "Apply" button to start the installation process. Choose "Forward" button in the installation wizard box.
- In the next step, you'll need to select the point where your CD-ROM has been mounted. Double-Click on the "Other" from the list and paste the mount location that you've copied from the CD folder previously (Step 2) and continue to further steps.
- Now, the software will take care of installing the MS Office and other softwares that are required (Internet Explorer and Microsoft Fonts).
- In the next steps, you'll be asked to provide your Product key. Enter the Office Serial Key and at the end of the installation, you can choose between Menu and desktop shortcuts for the Office elements.
- Wait a few minutes for the installation to be completed.
That's it! Now you can use the Microsoft Office 2007 on Linux Operating System too.

I initially encountered an error when installing (after entering key and selecting components to install). The error msg went away if I did not install msi2 in winetricks. I also installed msls31 as I got an error msg from that.
ReplyDeleteOffice is now running perfectly (exc Access of course!)
