Install Custom Windows 7 Themes Using Universal Theme Patcher

Windows7 ThemeWindows 7 is a superb operating system and many people like it not just because of its speed but also the look and feel it portraits. There is no such thing that you don't like the Windows7 Themes from Microsoft, but if you like to try out third party themes, simply follow the below installation steps as Microsoft will not allow you to install custom themes on Windows 7 Operating System.

  1. Download Universal Theme Patcher (Zipped Version) and Extract it.

  2. You'll find two different files named as “UniversalThemePatcher-x64″ and “UniversalThemePatcher-x86″. Choose the one according to your system requirements (either 64-bit or 86-bit version) and install it.

  3. Once the installation is completed, Universal Theme Patcher window will display you an option to patch uxtheme.dll, themeui.dll and themeservice.dll files. Simply, click on “Patch” button followed by each file to complete the patch process.

  4. Restart your system.

  5. Now, download any Custom Windows7 Theme and copy the ".theme" file and its theme folder to "%windir%\Resources\Themes" folder.

  6. After copying, right click on the desktop > Personalize > Select your newly added theme > click on "Apply".
Note: Remember to click on "Restore" button which is found just below the "Patch" button in case you face any problem while patching up these files.
