Till now, everyone including me used to think that redirecting a site or post using 301 will pass the link juice as it is, but Google has recently confirmed that there will be a tiny loss of Google link juice and PageRank while 301 redirecting a webpage to a new page. So, all the webmasters should be aware of the loss before planning to implement a 301 redirect. Do it only when required.
Matt Cutts clearly explains about 301 Redirects in this video.
The logic behind this is good. Because people will just use 301 redirects instead of direct linking to get the link juice easily. This change now let the users to use 301 redirects only when required.
Conclusion: Excess usage of using a 301 redirect is not good for SEO.
