Facebook has recently launched a new interface for the chat option. Unlike the previous chat version, this new Facebook chat window will be displayed in the sidebar pushing the actual Facebook interface to a little left. Most of the Facebook users disliked it for the reason being not able to chat with group of friends. Even more frustrating is that it's showing even the people who are Invisible/Logged Off along with the online friends. This looks a bit clumsy.
There are two options that allow you to view just the friends who are online.
1) Using Browser Plugin (Get's back the old Facebook chat)
2) Use the Facebook Pop-out Chat (If you don't mind about chatting with friends in a new window)
1.How to Get Rid of New Facebook Sidebar Chat using Browser Plugins?
- Firefox Users: You need to install a Grease monkey add-on and then install the "Facebook Chat Enhancer" script to get back your old Facebook chat feature. Restart your browser and view the old chat (slightly modified).
- Chrome Users: You can directly install the Facebook Chat Enhancer script without any Grease monkey add-on in chrome. Restart your browser to view the changes.

You can notice that after installing the script, the chat box is detached from the sidebar. If you're worried about installing scripts, you can simply go for the 2nd option.
2.How to Use the Facebook Pop-out Chat?
Simply go to http://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php which will open up a separate chat window where you can view only the friends who are online.

Thanks for this helpful article. It was very much frustrating. Facebook should also give options to its users whether they want new chat box or previous one.
