Disallow Friend Requests from Unknown Facebook Friends

It's really annoying sometimes when you get a lot of friend requests from unknown users on Facebook, especially in the case of unmarried females whose photo albums are set to "public" view. Considering this fact, Facebook provides you an option in its privacy settings to prevent unfamiliar friends from sending friend requests to you.

  1. Login to Facebook > Go to "Privacy Settings"
  2. Click on the link that says "Edit Settings". A pop-up window is displayed.
    Edit Facebook Privacy Settings
  3. Click on the drop-down menu that is highlighted with "Everyone" under the option "Who can send you friend requests?" and change it to "Friends of friends".
Prevent Facebook Friend Requests from Strangers
The change in these settings implies that only friends of your friends can be able to send you friend requests which is a bit safer than the earlier where you used to get friend requests from everyone.

Always, remember to not accept friend requests unless you know him/her personally or atleast check whether you both have any friends in common (mutual friends).
Recommended: Read the Facebook Security Guide carefully to stay away from security threats.

  1. I agree that this approach will help us in reducing the stranger add requests but sometimes we may miss the valuable connections which we have lost.. but still it is a nice way to control the friend requests...
