Nokia Lumia 800 Specifications, Review

We've been waiting nearly half a decade now for a Nokia phone which we could be proud to show off. Nokia had a good degree of success with the N8 but has not really managed to keep on top of industry developments and consumer demands in recent years.

Then the Lumia 800 came along under a spiral of what we thought was false hope and completely surprised us. The Lumia 800 contracts been released amidst a huge marketing campaign and we were a little suspicious at first, however, we have ended up loving it. Here are our reasons for our extreme fondness of what we believe is truly the greatest Nokia phone for many years.

Body

Nokia Lumia 800 MobileYou only have to take a quick look at the Lumia to see that it is something quite different from Nokia's earlier phones. Apart from the N9 of course, as the Lumia 800 adopts the same physical body as the earlier MeeGo powered phone. The N9 caused quite a sensation thanks to its gorgeous appearance, and none of this charm has worn off with the Lumia.

The Lumia is lovely looking with its square edges, range of great bright colors and its full glass front. The comfort factor is also high because of the nice back and whole thing is built inside the polycarbonate case and though plastic really feels like it is made of quality. This is the first Nokia phone for some time that has a lot of aesthetic appeal.

Processor

Though not a huge processor, the 1.4GHz chip is a decent sized one for a Nokia and overshadows much of what we are used to. It is also more than enough power to handle Windows Phone 7, and positions the Lumia as one of the most powerful Windows Phones on the market.

The Lumia also comes with 16GB of storage and 512MB of RAM, so you're not short of a little bit of oomph when it is needed. Like most Windows Phones though, the Lumia is limited in storage by not having an expandable microSD slot. However, just as the iPhone 4S has iCloud, the Lumia has access to cloud storage as well with SkyDrive. This can provide you with plenty more space for media content, and can be accessed anywhere that you have a 3G or Wi-Fi connection.

Windows 7.5

While physically the Lumia looks almost identical to the N9, the one thing that really differentiates it is the Windows Phone operating system. It is not just the phone which looks beautiful and attractive; Windows Phone 7 Mango is a gorgeous operating system to use. The new OS comes with the typical Windows guise and so is aesthetically beautiful and fortunately is also very nice to use.

There is little lag and multitasking abilities are also fantastic and the phone moves without any lag problems. Windows Phone offers the most unique Smartphone experience and is a breath of fresh air in a market crammed full of Android and iPhones. The system has a more personal feel to it, with things organized according to your contacts rather than the more app-centric nature of Android and iOS.

Along with some of the best social networking features found on any Smartphone operating system, Windows Phone comes with excellent multimedia features thanks to Zune and Xbox LIVE. So far Samsung and HTC have both produced a couple of Windows Phones, but the Lumia shows it may very well be Nokia that makes this operating system as popular as it deserves to be.

Camera

The Lumia has an 8 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens. Carl Zeiss optics is something we are used to on Nokia phones and it is a great bonus on the Lumia. The 8mp camera and the 720p video taking combine to great effect and ensure that the phone offers very attractive picture taking options and the images really look great on the screen.

Display

One of the main reasons for our love of the Lumia is the AMOLED display. Although AMOLED is primarily associated with Samsung phones like the Galaxy S2, Nokia is now using this technology and it just looks beautifully bright and vibrant and really captures all we want it to on the OS, while browsing or while watching footage or looking at images. It really is one of the best displays available and we love it.

Nokia signed its deal with Microsoft to produce Windows Phones back at the start of the year. After months of waiting to see what the duo would come up with, there are not many people who have not been somewhat taken aback by the result. The Lumia 800 is a superb Smartphone, and one that could very well signal a good future for Nokia and Microsoft alike.

Nokia Lumia 800 Price : $588
