Intex FitRist Review: Mi Band vs FitRist Comparison

Fitness Trackers have become a craze now, all thanks to Xiaomi (Mi Band) and YU (Yu Fit) for increasing the competition by launching budget Fitness bands in India. Recently, Intex has launched a budget fitness band named ‘FitRist’ in India for a price tag of Rs.999, which is available exclusively on This fitness device comes with an OLED display and is able to track your daily activities like steps, calories burned and also monitors your sleep. In addition to these, you can also control your Smartphones’ Camera and Music player apps directly from your band. The band even displays date, time, incoming call alerts (number) and message alerts on the OLED screen so that you can see who is calling.

Inside the box, you’ll find the Fitrist band, Charging dock (clip style connector) and User manual. The band is available in blue and white colors.

Intex FitRist Review

First, let us look at the design part. The body of the fitness band is made of plastic and rubber, which is pretty good and comfortable to wear. On the band, you’ll find just a single button and it doesn’t support touchscreen functionality. You’ll need to use the button in order to navigate between different options.

You can charge your device using the Charging dock, which is a clip based connector. There are 3 charging points on the backside of the band. Just connect the clip so that the points touch each other to charge it (see image below). The band weighs just 22 grams and to some extent it is water resistant.

There is a 0.86 inch OLED display that has a resolution of 96 x 32 pixels. The display is not at all visible when you go under the sun. So, don’t expect to use it as your primary device to know the date and time, if you’re a frequent traveler.

How to Install FitRist App and Connect the Fitness Band?

Connecting the Fitrist band with the mobile app is a bit different than the Mi Band and other devices. It makes use of the Bluetooth 4.0 and is compatible with Android 4.3 and above or iOS 7.0 and above Smartphones.

  1. Just go to the Playstore, search for FitRist and install the app or directly scan the QR code found in the user manual with your mobile and it will directly open the app installation page for you.
  2. Once the installation is completed, open the app and it will ask you to enable the Bluetooth. Once done, it will search for the devices nearby. At the same time, long press the button on the FitRist band for a few seconds until you see the $PAIR option on the band.
  3. Your band is now connected to your Smartphone app.

However, the band should always be in the connect mode if you want to receive incoming call notifications or use the camera & music apps. For the rest of the activities like step count, sleep tracking etc.. you don’t always need to stay connected. Just use the band separately and sync with the device when needed.

Is the FitRist Band Accurate? Mi Band vs FitRist Tracker

Step Count: Well, in my usage, I found that the step count was somewhat accurate when compared with the Mi Band and other devices, as you can optimize the Stride value based on your style of walking, which is not present on the other devices. By changing this value to suit your walking style, you can get some better (correct) results. FitRist is the clear winner here.

Calorie Burn: The calorie burn is calculated based on the distance you’ve traveled. So, it is a predefined calculation. However, the number of calories burned you see on the fitness band (lower) and the app varies. Therefore, it is better to take the app’s count into consideration. This may be a technical glitch, which can be solved with future updates. So, for now, Mi Band is the winner.

Sleep Monitoring: I’ve used the FitRist band along with the Mi Band while sleeping. While the Mi Band is pretty accurate in the sleep monitoring section, the FitRist fails by including the time it is kept aside before wearing the band. It simply calculates the kept aside time as deep sleep. Here, the Mi Band is the winner.

Message/Incoming Call Alerts: Since, the FitRist comes with an OLED display, you can view the alerts on the screen itself, whereas the MiBand users can just get vibration alerts. So, FitRist has a little edge over Mi Band in this section.

Alarm: Unfortunately, there is no option to set an Alarm on the FitRist, which is an option that most of the fitness band users use. So, Mi Band users are a bit lucky here. Let us hope they include this option in the future updates.

Anti-Lost: This is a cool feature which is not present in the MiBand. You can find your device easily when lost by enabling this feature. But, don’t expect to catch a thief 😉 with this option. It is useful when you just forget your device nearby.

Battery Life: On a single charge (for 2 hrs), you get around 7 to 8 days of usage time. Well, this is understandable with the presence of OLED display on the band. The Mi Band usually last for more than a month (no display). So, you can’t compare Mi Band with FitRist in this category as the Intex band is giving a reasonable battery backup.

How to Control Camera or Play Music using FitRist Band?

Camera: In order to use the camera remotely, connect your band with the app. Next, tap the ‘Camera’ option in the app and press the button on your band until you see the Camera icon. Then, press and hold (long press) the button for a few seconds. Let go of the button to capture a snap via your mobile phone. You can even click selfies using this option. Just select the front camera instead of the rear cam.

Play Music: Connect the band with the app. Then press the button on your FitRist until you see the music icon. Next, long press the button for a few second until you get the music control options (rewind, play, forward and back). Single press the button to navigate between those options and long press on a selected option (ex: play) to activate it (ex: play a song).

Final Verdict:

Except the sleep tracking and Alarm clock, I found the rest of the options much better on the FitRist when compared to the Xiaomi Mi Band. And with the OLED display, the FitRist would be the best choice if you’re looking for a fitness tracker under Rs.1000.
