The latest happening in the Smartphone market is the LeEco Le 1S which is currently setting stunning records in the flash sale genre on Flipkart.com. I’ve purchased the handset in the first sale for a price of Rs.10,999/- and after using it for a week, here is the actual review of the Le 1S Android mobile.
The Le 1S phone comes in a very strong boxing along with a SIM card ejector pin, a 12v 2 amp Charger that supports fast charging and a type-C USB cable. Except the handset, SIM ejector and the charger, you won’t find anything else in the box (no earphones as well).
Le 1S Review
The handset sports a 5.5 inch Full HD display that is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It comes with an excellent build quality and metallic body. It is powered by Android 5.0.2 Lollipop based on the Chinese Custom EUI interface, which is very fast. You’ll find the dedicated backlit supported navigation keys at the bottom. The type-C USB port is located at the bottom and the 3.5 mm audio jack along with Infrared sensor is located on the top. The Volume keys and Power key are located on the right side and the left side is for the SIM Cards.
Fingerprint Sensor on the Le 1S Mobile
On the rear is a fingerprint sensor that can be used to lock/unlock the mobile and while shooting videos or clicking selfies, you can simply tap on the fingerprint sensor to capture your recordings. To be frank, this feature is very handy for selfie fanatics.
Setting up the fingerprint security feature is pretty straightforward. Go the ‘Security’ under the ‘Settings’ and choose the Fingerprint setup option.
P.S: You need to first create an alternate PIN or Password before registering your fingerprint.
Once done, click on ‘Fingerprint Setup’ option and simply tap on the sensor (mirror on the back) multiple times until the entire mapping of the fingerprint is registered by your mobile. That’s it! You can now unlock or lock your handset using the secured fingerprint and everyone else will be asked to enter the password or PIN that you’ve set in the earlier step.
The handset is powered by a 2.2 GHz Helio X10 Turbo MTK 6795T Octa Core Processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. On the first boot, you’ll get 1.5 GB of free RAM and 24.5 GB of free storage. The rest is used by the system for basic functioning. However, an addition of external memory card support along with the 32GB RAM would be a better decision. Anyways, the 24.5 GB free memory is enough for most of the users.
The Le 1S mobile supports 4G (on both the SIMs), 3G, Bluetooth, WiFi, WiFi hotspot, IR Blaster (Remote Control) and Bluetooth. It supports dual SIM cards (Nano SIM + Micro SIM). The Infrared Blaster is one more interesting feature which we don’t usually find such mid-range Android Smartphones. So, it is a very good deal.
LeEco Le 1S Design
The most stunning feature of the handset is its design with metallic body, which can be seen only in premium handsets. As of now, it is available in Gold and Silver variants. I personally prefer the Gold variant as it looks premium.
Le 1S Camera Review
The Le 1S Android phone sports a 13 MP rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, while there is a 5MP front facing camera for taking selfies. BTW, it supports Wide angle selfies too. The good thing about the camera is the support for recording videos in 4K resolution. However, most of the users are not able to upload those 4K videos on YouTube for now. There is a support for Panorama and Slow motion (2x & 4x). When you switch the autofocus mode, you can see high color saturation and the images are not of great clarity. But, when you use manual mode, then it can shoot better pictures.
I find that this is the only area (camera) where the Le 1S is facing issues (lagging behind other devices in the similar price range), but it can be solved with future updates. For now, I am standing on my words that the Le 1S camera is just average. The details are missing in most of the photos.
BTW, as per the reports, LeEco is planning to release the first OTA update on 22nd February 2016. So, hope the issues related to the camera and other occasional bugs might be resolved.
The Smartphone comes with a support for Dolby DTS and the speaker vents (two) are located at the bottom of the mobile for maximum sound output.
I played the Asphalt 8 game for about 30 minutes. It was lag free and butter smooth. The battery dropped by 10% and the handset didn’t heat up much. The maximum temperature I countered was 40 degrees which is well under control.
Le 1S Battery
The Le 1S boasts a 3000 mAh non-removable battery which can give you a lifetime of 4 to 5 hours on continuous and moderate usage. Since it supports fast charging, you don’t have to worry much about the battery life. In our findings, the mobile has went from 22% to 100% in 1 hour 15 minutes, which is pretty good feature for heavy users.

Final Verdict: Is Le 1S a Worthy Buy?
The LeEco Le 1S is definitely a bang for the buck. No other Smartphone in this price range has such wonderful configuration and excellent build quality. Except the Camera, I didn’t face any issues with the mobile till date. So, expecting that the future updates might solve the issues, I can recommend this handset for sure.
